OWLS HOLD FIRST PRESEASON FOOTBALL PRACTICE

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University football program today held its opening preseason practice under first-year head coach Al Golden. The Owls have scheduled 29 practices before they open their season on Thursday evening, August 31, at Buffalo.

"I finally have a smile on my face," said Golden to the media prior to the practice. "It's exciting to get the chance to wear the 'coaching hat,' as it's something I have not done in some time.

"There is more competition here now than I can remember on many of the teams that I have been associated with. Particularly at the quarterback position, where there are five players vying for time. One of the things that would be striking to anybody in the coaching profession is that we now have up to 47 newcomers on this team. I was shooting for 33 or 35. We have 47 new faces on this team. Almost half the team is here as a result of this staff."

The Owls will hold their first session in full pads on Tuesday, August 8. The team will hold two-a-days on four dates, with the first being on Friday, August 11.

"The Golden Rule is very simple and that is 'what you do (as a football player), you do to everyone at Temple,' said Golden. "How you conduct yourself - academically, athletically and socially - is reflected on the entire University. That's the biggest sign in this building (Edberg-Olson Hall) and it's in the team meeting room and it says 'What you do, you do to everyone at Temple University."

Season tickets are available now for as low as $36 by calling 215-204-8499. Individual game tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
