TEMPLE PLAYS UNLV TO 2-2 TIE IN MEN'S SOCCER

LAS VEGAS, NV - Travel West young soccer team. That is what the Temple men's soccer team did Friday when it took on UNLV in the opening round of the UNLV Adidas Invitational and the Owls held their own against the host Rebels, playing to a 2-2 tie. Temple (1-0-1) will play Denver on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (est).
UNLV opened the scoring in the 11th minute when senior forward Martin Kenny headed home a crossing pass from Nicholas Paterson for his first goal of the season. Junior Mike Minai answered for the Owls six minutes later when he deflected a free kick off the foot of sophomore James Suevo past junior keeper Brett Hafeman (eight saves).
Senior defender Matt Maher scored his second goal of the season in the 51st minute, firing one in from 15 yards out. The Owls defense keyed by Maher and sophomore goalkeeper Bryant Hosler (six saves) kept the score 2-1 untl the 78th minute when Paterson took a pass from Ben Haugland and drilled it home from 12 yards out.
UNLV had two shots in the first overtime, neither on goal. Freshman Kurt Walsh had the only shot on goal in the second overtime. Temple held a 16-12 advantage in shots for the match and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
