WINTHROP BLANKS TEMPLE, 2-0, IN MEN'S SOCCER

COLUMBIA, SC - Scoring continued to plague the Temple men's soccer team as the Owls were shut out for the third straight match Sunday, this time 2-0 to Winthrop in the final match of the adidas-Gamecock Classic hosted by South Carolina.  The Owls, who have yet to play a home match, are 1-3-1 on the season.  Winthrop improves to 5-1-0.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Dustin Bybee blasted one past sophomore goalkeepr Bryant Hosler (three saves) from six yards out.  Daniel Revivo and Saidi Isaac notched assists on the play. Isaac then fed Otto Loewy for a breakaway 10 minutes into the second half.  Loewy beat Hosler to make the score 2-0.

Junior Tony Pratico replaced Hosler in the 68th minute and made one save.  Winthrop keeper Patrick Mitrovich made two saves to record his fourth shutout of the season. 

Winthrop out-shot Temple, 14-8, on the day with senior midfielder Ryan Heins (3 shots) pacing the Owl attack.

Sophomore back  James Suevo and junior forward Mike Minai earned All-Tournament honors for Temple while Mitrovich, Bybee, Lowey and Henry Kalungi were the Winthrop representatives on the team.  Mitrovich was named Defensive MVP while South Carolina's Mike Sambursky was the Offensive MVP.

Temple will host Hartwick Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) at Ambler Field in its home opener.
