Women's Gymnastics Places Seventh At ECAC's

KINGSTON, RI - The Temple women's gymnastics team placed seventh at the ECAC Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Towson University took the top spot at the ECAC's with a score of 191.275. William & Mary placed second with a 190.350. Penn finished third, scoring 189.050. Yale and Cornell tied for fourth (188.800) followed by URI (188.375), Temple (186.550), Brown (186.050) and James Madison (183.725). Their placement in this competition qualifies the Owls to compete at the USAG Championships as a team.

The Cherry and White performed best on the vault, turning in a 47.450 on the apparatus. Alycia Petitto and Brittany Matthews both had a 9.550 performance; the Owl's highest on the vault. Senior co-captain Lindsey Stern had the Owls' highest overall score (9.625) on the bars. Junior Sarah Liebowitz also turned in a strong performance on bars, scoring a 9.575. The Owls finished with a 46.825 on the bars.

The beam proved to be the most difficult event for the Owls. Freshman Natasha Crawford logged the team's high score (9.350). The Owls finished with a 45.500 on the apparatus. The Cherry and White fared better on the floor, turning in a 46.775. Junior Jillian Kornett had the Owls' best performance with a 9.575. Stern had a strong floor performance, scoring a 9.550.

Temple fielded two all-around competitors. Liebowitz had the high score with a 37.125. Crawford finished with a 36.000 all-around. The Owls continue their post season competition at the USAG's to be held at Cornell on April 13-15.
