Men's Tennis Opens Season At Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, PA - Senior Matt Struble and junior Philip Gegenheimer won two matches to advance to the doubles final at the Swarthmore Invitational highlighting the Temple men's tennis team's opening weekend of competition. Both players also won singles matches at the tournament.
Struble and Gegenheimer defeated Evan Stiegel and Thomas Kinrade, in a tightly-contested 8-6 opening match. The duo then edged Michael Klimchakand Roger Mosteller from the College of New Jersey, 9-7. Delaware's Austin Longacre and Nolan Greenberg ended their run in the finals with an 8-4 victory.
Struble won his first singles match, defeating Stiegel, 6-3, 6-2. He then lost to Longacre, 6-1, 6-4. Gegenheimer won his first singles match, defeating Adam Wallwork, 6-4, 6-0, before falling in a close 6-7 (7-3), 70-5, 10-6 match to Haverford's Alex Buxbaum.
Freshman Gonzalo De Villa won his first collegiate match, defeating Swarthmore's Jonathan Reiss, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 12-10. Zachary Tobias also posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Haverford's Kellan Webb for the other Temple win.
The Owls next hit the courts on Sunday, September 24 when they travel to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens. The match starts at noon.
