LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Temple men's soccer team had its chances against Denver in the second game of the UNLV adidas Invitational, but the Owls failed to convert in a 2-0 loss to the Pioneers Sunday afternoon.
"The score was not indicative of the game," said Temple head coach David MacWilliams. "We had four breakaways, one-on-one with their keeper, but were unable to finish."
Jacob Chase scored the first goal of the game for Denver (2-1-1) in the 33rd minute of play, beating Temple keeper Bryant Hosler (five saves) from the left corner. Colin Jones added an insurance tally in the 64th minute, heading home a crossing pass from Joey Mathot.
Joe Willis had three saves in goal for Denver in posting the shutout. Tony Pratico, who entered the game in the 78th minute, made one save for Temple.
The Owls (1-1-1) next travel to South Carolina, taking on the 24th-ranked Gamecocks in the first game of the South Carolina Tournament on September 8 (7:30 p.m.).
