Temple Defeats Saint Bonaventure, 73-55, For Eighth Straight Win

Olean, N.Y.- Kamesha Hairston scored 20 points and Fatima Maddox added 16 more as Temple cruised to its eighth straight win, a 73-55 victory over Saint Bonaventure on Friday afternoon. The Owls improve to 12-4, 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Bonnies fall to 10-7, 0-2 in Conference play.

The Bonnies jumped out to a 7-0 lead, thanks to five straight points from Audrey Latendresse. Lady Comfort finally broke the scoring drought with a lay-up at 17:35 and sparked a 7-2 run to make it 9-7 with just over 16 minutes to play. The offensive surge was short-lived however, as SBU went on a 6-0 run to open up a 15-7 lead by the 14 minute mark. Hairston ended the Bona run with a jumper at 12:22 and Fatima Maddox's subsequent trey made it a three-point game (15-12) at 11:50. The Owls continued to battle and a 4-0 Nicole Pittman run gave Temple its first lead of the game (20-19) at 6:11. The teams traded the lead for the rest of the way, with neither squad going ahead by more than three points until a 7-0 Cherry and White run made it 33-27 with just under a minute to play. Though the Bonnies tried to make a run, the Owls were able to take a 33-30 advantage at the half.

The Bonnies shot 53% from the field to Temple's 39% but the Owls had a slight 17-15 advantage in rebounding. An 8-0 run began the second half but this time it was Temple's time to shine. Comfort got it started with a lay-up at 19:34 and the Owls rolled to a 41-30 advantage by 16:41. Andrea Doneth finally got the Bonnies on the board at 16:20 but TU continued to roll, completing a 19-4 run and building an 18-pt lead (52-34) by the 13-minute mark. The Owls began to cool off, allowing St. Bonaventure to cut the lead to 10 points (61-51) at 5:45. Temple stayed tough and iced six free throws to make it 71-55 with just one minute to play. Ashley Morris added one more to end the game with a 73-55 result. The Owls shot 62.5% from the field in the second half to finish with a 49% shooting percentage.

Comfort was also in double figures with 12 points. Hairston was tops in rebounding, grabbing seven boards and dishing a team-high four assists.

Dana Mitchell, Latendresse and Ashley Edwards all scored 10 points for St. Bonaventure.

Temple continues its road trip through New York when it travels to Fordham to take on the Rams on Sunday at 1 p.m.
