Women's Track Opens New Year At Gotham Cup and Penn State Relays

NEW YORK, NY - Freshman Melissa Gale finished fourth in the pole vault with a season-high clearance of 10-10 as the Temple women's indoor track team opened 2007 at the NYC Gotham Cup at the Armory on Friday. Junior Kimberlyn Hill also posted a season-high by finishing eighth in the triple jump (36-4 1/4).
Sophomore Jasselle Cruz finished 28th in the 400m with a team-best time of 59.97 while freshman Tashae Croxton was 29th in the 500m (1:23.94). Junior Molly Curran also posted a season-best in the 3000m (10:53.10) and placed tenth.
In the throws, sophomore Amanda Cole finished 18th in the shot put (38-4 1/2).
Junior Cheryl Anscombe finished second in the 55m dash (7.33) at the Penn State Relays. Freshman Brittney McRae also had an impressive showing, finishing sixth in the 55m hurdles (8.47).
In the relays, Temple finished fourth in the 4x200 and 4x400.
The Owls travel back to the Armory next weekend for the Great Dane Classic and also will send athletes to the PSU Open.
