Temple Defeats Fordham, 62-34, For Ninth Straight Win

Bronx, N.Y.- Kamesha Hairston's scored 18 points and Lady Comfort added 16 more as Temple cruised to its ninth straight win, a 62-34 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon. Hairston played just 23 minutes, totaling 16 first-half points. The Owls improve to 13-4, 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Rams fall to 2-15 overall, 0-3 in Conference play.
Comfort scored four straight points to begin the game and Hairston added one more bucket to give Owls a 6-0 lead by the 18-minute mark. Fordham's leading scorer Lisa Carrol finally got the Rams on the board with a lay-up at 17:40, but the suffocating Owl defense forced seven Fordham turnovers, giving Temple a 15-2 lead by the 12-minute mark. Carrol finally ended the Temple run with a three-pointer at 11:45, but the Rams couldn't contain Comfort who, by the 11-minute mark, had netted 10 of Temple's 17 points. The Owls continued to roll, holding the Rams' scoreless for another six minutes and put together a 13-0 run to take a 30-8 lead by 4:35. Zopf got Fordham into double digits with a lay-up at 4:14, but the Owls had already put together a 20-point lead, paced by 11 points from Hairston. Temple finished the half with an 11-4 run to take a 41-14 lead into the break. Hairston finished the stanza with a game-high 16 points, while Comfort chipped in with 14. The Rams were held to just six field goals and committed 13 turnovers.
Temple picked up right where it left off, taking a 47-16 lead just three minutes into the second stanza. As the Owls substitutes filed in, the Rams were only able to get as close as 22 (54-32) with 3:12 remaining before Temple finished with the 62-34 result.
Hairston finished with a team-high eight rebounds, while Comfort had seven. Shenita Landry posted a game-high four steals, while Comfort had three. LaKeisha Eaddy dished five assists in just 19 minutes.
The Owls were dominant on the boards, out-rebounding the Rams, 46-24.
Carrol was the only Ram to see double figures with 16 points, while LaToya Chalmers had a team-high eight rebounds.
Temple wraps up its road trip when it travels to face the Minutewomen of Massachusetts on January 18 at 7 p.m.
