PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Ryan Heins and Matt Maher capped stellar careers on the Temple University men's soccer team by being named First Team All-Soccer 7 at the league's annual awards banquet held at Colleen's on the Parkway January 24. The two were part of an 11-member PSS squad led by Player of the Year, Penn senior goalkeeper Daniel Cepero.
"This is a tremendous honor for Ryan and Matt," said Temple head coach David MacWilliams. "They have had outstanding careers here, and it is fitting that they earn this honor in their final season."
Both four-year starters, Maher led the Owls in scoring this season with a career-high seven points. The Green Creek, N.J. native (Middle Township) scored three goals, also a team-best, and added one assist while playing on the Cherry and White defensive unit. He completed his career with nine goals and six assists for 24 points.
Heins, a strong presence in the Temple midfield the past four years, led the Owls in assists (2), shots (33) and shots on goal (13) while ranking fourth on the squad in scoring with four points. The Medford, N.J. native (Shawnee) scored his lone goal of the season in his final game in a Temple Uniform, a 3-2 loss at St. Bonaventure (10/29). Also named to the all-Atlantic 10 Conference second team, Heins compiled eight goals and 11 assists for 27 career points.
