PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's tennis team could not have played much better in easily dispatching St. Franics (NY), 7-0, Saturday evening at the Cheltenham Tennis Club in its first home match of the season. The Owls improve to 2-2 with the win while the Terriers fall to 0-1.
Sophomore Nathan Spunda was the only Owl to have any difficulty with his match, as Jindrich Chaloupka took him to a tie-breaker, 6-4, 4-6 (10-4), at first singles. Philip Gegenheimer, Zach Tobias, Pavlos Stephanides each won their respective singles matches from the second through fourth slots at 6-0, 6-0. Gonzalo De Villa and Aymeric de Conde completed the singles sweep at the fifth and sixth positions with de Conde recording his first collegiate win.
Eduardo Saavedra and Tobias teamed for an 8-0 win at second doubles with Robert Spencer and Kristopher Celtnieks shutting out their opponents at third doubles to win the point.
The Owls next travel to Swarthmore for a Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) match.
