PHILADELPHIA, PA- Temple women headed to the Schuylkill to begin racing for the fall of 2007. The Navy Day Regatta is the first of four races for the Lady Owls. The women raced in the women's Dad Vail eight, the women's college eight, and the women's college JV eight.

With a head race style, Temple put forth a strong effort. The lady owls raced three eights this weekend to show the growing size of their team. The women's Dad Vail eight raced its boat to a 7th place out of ten, finishing with a time of 16:37. The women's college eight also finished 7th out of eleven in their race with a time of 15:55. Women's college JV eight took home an 11th place finish out of thirteen with a time of 17:20. In all races competition was stiff from local schools such as Villanova, Saint Joseph's University, La Salle University, Drexel, and University of Penn.

Fall racing is 4,000 meters (or 2.4 miles), compared to the spring season, of a 2,000 meter sprint race. A head race style is a parade of boats that are set off by the officials at the starting line with fifteen seconds between each team. Each boat's goal is to catch up to the boat that started before them and pass them.

The Lady Owls have a week to prepare for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, Saturday, October 27, 2007 beginning at 9 AM.
