AMBLER, PA- Senior Mike Minai and sophomore Derek Ludlow each had a goal as Temple took care of business against a physical La Salle team with a 2-0 victory in men's soccer Saturday afternoon at the Ambler Soccer Complex. With the win, the Owls improve to 4-4-1 (2-0-0 in the Soccer 7), while the Explorers drop to 2-6-1 (0-1-1 in the Soccer 7). The match does not count in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings.
There were no goals in the first half as both teams combined for only six shots. Both teams were extremely physical, however, combining for 14 fouls.
The Owls came out strong in the second half as Minai scored on a perfectly placed free kick in the 55th minute that hit the upper right-hand corner of the net. The Explorers would continue to battle to keep the game close, but Ludlow had other plans as he scored in the 85th minute on a beautiful cross from freshman Max Kinderwater. That goal cemented the win for the Owls.
La Salle goalkeeper Andrew Bernhard had two saves in the loss, while Owls goalkeeper Tony Pratico had one. Pratico has posted two straight shutouts and has three on the season and seven for his career. The senior has not allowed a goal in the last 240 minutes of play.
The Owls will open A-10 play as next Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. match at rival Saint Joseph's.
