PHILADELPHIA-The Temple women's basketball team (7-7) will look to kick off the new year on a good note when it travels to face the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (7-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. This is Temple's last Mid-American Conference game of the season, after earning a perfect 4-0 record against Central Michigan, Kent State, Ball State and Western Michigan.
Series Record
This is the second meeting between the Temple Owls and the Miami Red Hawks. Temple leads the series, 1-0, defeating the Red Hawks, 88-70 last season.
Ashley Morris tried desperately to dig her team out of a large deficit, scoring 15 of Temple's 34 points, including 11 in the second half, but she could not battle a strong Rutgers team alone, as her team fell 70-34 to the sixth-ranked Scarlet Knights on Sunday. The 34 points was the lowest point total since December 12, 1998 when Temple scored 34 against then #16 Duke. Temple made just 10 field goals in the game and committed 21 turnovers, while the Scarlet Knights made 56.3% of their shots. Jasmine Stone provided a game-high nine rebounds and had three assists and three steals to help the Cherry and White effort.
Morris leads Temple in scoring and assists, averaging 16.5 ppg and dishing 46 assists. She also leads Temple in three-point shooting, making 38.6% of her attempts. Lady Comfort is averaging 8.6 ppg and a team-high 8.3 rpg. LaKeisha Eaddy has a team-high 21 steals.
Miami kept the game within striking distance without top scorer Amanda Jackson, but a 16-0 second-half run by Chattanooga was too much to overcome as the RedHawks fell to the Lady Mocs, 63-88 on Sunday. Miami was led by Jenna Schone's 15 points, while Courtney Reed finished with 14 points and Ford added 12 points. Briana Dunlap added nine points off the bench on three three-pointers.
Jackson leads two Red Hawks in double figure scoring with 23.1 ppg, while Schone is chipping in with 15.2 ppg. Laura Markwood is Miami's top rebounder with 9.9 rpg, while Schone has dished a team-high 67 assists thus far this season.
ATTACk THE MAC!
The Owls are 8-1 against Mid-American Conference teams, with its only loss coming at the hands of Bowling Green on Nov. 24, 2006. A win tonight would make Temple a perfect 5-0 against MAC teams this season.
