CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Temple (21-5, 11-0 A-10) travels to Charlotte Sunday hoping to keeps its unbeaten A-10 record intact when it takes on the third place Charlotte 49ers (17-9. 8-3 A-10)on Sunday night at 6:30. The game can be seen nationally on ESPNU.
This is the third meeting between the Temple Owls and the Charlotte 49ers. The series is tied at one. The teams last met on January 6, 2006, when the Owls defeated the 49ers, 77-69, in Philadelphia. In the final home game of their Temple careers, seniors Kamesha Hairston and Fatima Maddox scored 18 and nine points, respectively, as the Owls dropped Saint Louis, 74-64 Thursday night. En route to winning their 17th game in the last 18 outings, the Cherry and White improve to 21-5 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play, at 11-0, while the Billikens fall to 11-14 overall and 3-8 in the Atlantic 10. Hairston, shot 7-for-15 from the floor while Maddox shot 4-for-10 and dished four assists. In another energy-filled outing off the bench, freshman Jasmine Stone grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds while scoring nine points in 21 minutes. Lady Comfort posted 10 points while LaKeisha Eaddy dropped a game-high five assists.Hairston leads Temple in scoring and rebounding, averaging 20.0 ppg and 8.9 rpg. Comfort is second with 13.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Maddox is third, averaging 11.5 ppg. Eaddy continues to put up great numbers, with the guard fourth in scoring (7.0 ppg) and first in assists (101).
George Washington topped Charlotte, 64-59, Thursday. Charlotte falls to 17-9 and 8-3 in the A-10. They also had their school-record 22-game home court winning streak snapped. Sabrina Gregory led the way for Charlotte with 17 points, five assists and four boards. Danielle Burgin added 12 points and eight rebounds. Wendy Stywalt and Traci Ray chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Gregory leads two 49ers in double figures with 13.6 ppg and is tops in assists (112). Burgin is second in scoring (11.1 ppg) and first in rebounds (7.5 rpg).
