PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University men's tennis team lost to Richmond Saturday night, 5-2, at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls fall to 3-5 on the season while Richmond evens its record at 5-5.
Sophomore Nathan Spunda provided a victory for the Owls at the first singles spot, defeating Chris Louis in a tight match, 6-2, 2-6 (10-4). Temple's other point came from sixth singles, with sophomore Eduardo Saavedra downing Matt Farina, 6-4, 6-2.
Philip Gegenheimer and Daniel Davis were out once again with injuries.
"Considering we have two of our starters unable to play, I feel that our guys did well," said Temple head coach Steve Mauro. "Richmond was the A-10 Champion last year, and I feel that when we get healthy, we will be able to compete at that caliber as well."
The Owls hit the courts again tonight, Sunday, February 18 at the Cheltenham Tennis Club where they take on Rhode Island (8:00 p.m.).
