PHILADELPHIA - Temple University men's tennis players Nathan Spunda and Pavlos Stephanides earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors for the week ending Sunday, February 18. The pair helped the Owls to a 1-1 record on the week, falling to Richmond, 5-2, and defeating Rhode Island, 5-1.
Sophomore Nathan Spunda posted a pair of first singles wins this week against A-10 opponents to gain the Player of the Week honor. He captured a 6-2, 2-6 (10-4) win against Richmond's Chris Louis and defeated Rhode Island's Henrik Almstrom, 6-1, 6-4. He currently holds a 6-1 record at the first singles spot on the season.
Freshman Pavlos Stephanides downed Rhode Island's Adam Gart at the fourth singles position, 3-6, 6-3 (6-1) to receive his second Rookie of the Week award. He also teamed up with Robert Spencer for a 7-6 win at third doubles against the Rams.
The Owls next play New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday, February 24.The contest will be held at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Club (4:00 p.m.).
