PHILADELPHIA- After a slow first half, Temple (18-5, 8-0 A-10) rebounded to defeat the visiting Dayton Flyers (8-15, 3-5 A-10), 68-50, and remain unbeaten in Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. Senior All-America Candidate Kamesha Hairston led three Owls in double figures with 17 points, while freshman Jasmine Stone posted a career-high 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Fatima Maddox chipped in with 10 points.

Stone tied her career-high nine points in the first half and added seven rebounds to allow Temple to claw back from an 11-point deficit in the opening stanza. The Owls out-rebounded the Flyers, 48-38, to mark the ninth time this season that Temple has posted at least a 10-board differential over its opponent.

The Owls were non-existent in the opening minutes of the game, allowing the Flyers to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Lady Comfort finally got Temple on the board with a jumper at 16:48 but the Cherry and White continued to struggle, thanks to nagging turnover and foul problems and a meager two-for-seven field performance in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Flyers increased their lead to 11 points with a jumper by Brittany Holterman at 9:15. Stone was the lone bright spot for Temple, leading the Owls with five points and four rebounds to keep pace. A technical foul assessed to Head Coach Dawn Staley at 7:49 seemed to be just the right spark for the Owls, however, as Temple went on a 14-2 run to cut Dayton's lead to just two points (28-26) with 3:46 remaining. Hairston rattled off three straight points to put the Owls on top (29-28) for the first time in the contest and enabled the squad to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room. TU rebounded to finish with a 50% shooting percentage in the first stanza.

Temple returned from the break playing the basketball that it is known for. Hairston netted eight points, grabbed two rebounds and posted one block in the first five minutes of the half to give the Owls a 43-32 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Just when it seemed that TU would easily roll to its 18th win of the season, the Owls started to break down, going scoreless for over five minutes. Luckily, the Flyers continued to struggle as well and could only get as close as eight points before Temple opened up a 15 point lead (59-42), due to seven straight points from Ashley Morris. The Owl lead swelled to as much as 22 points with just under two minutes to play before the Flyers were able to cut it down to the 68-50 result.

Holterman was the lone double-figure scorer for Dayton with 21 points, while Nikki Oakland grabbed a game-high 10 rebound After taking the early lead, Dayton shot just 20.6% in the second half to finish with a 29.7% shooting percentage.

LaKeisha Eaddy dished a game-high five assists to go along with five points, while Maddox earned three steals.

Temple continues its home stand on Friday, February 9 when it hosts Richmond at 12 p.m. The day will also mark the fourth annual Dawn Staley School Day.
