Owls Finish Third in Regular Season Finale

MORGANTOWN, WV - The Temple women's gymnastics team (10-13), under the direction of first-year head coach Aaron Murphy, completed its regular season schedule with a third place finish in quad-meet action at West Virginia on Saturday afternoon. The host Moutaineers (195.275) finished first and Rutgers (190.225) placed second as the Owls bested Yale (186.925).
Senior Noelle Moore led the individual charge for the Cherry and White as the Cortland Manor, N.Y.native placed seventh (9.700) on the vault, fifth (9.675) on the balance beam and sixth (9.775) in the floor exercise.
Moore's vault score was tops for the Owls as Temple captured a season-high 47.950 team score. Senior co-captain Jillian Kornett posted a 9.650 while junior Desiree Meredith tallied a 9.600. Sophomore Nicole Catrambone (9.525) and true freshman Monica Zuber (9.475) completed Murphy's vault attack.
The Cherry and White were led on the uneven parallel bars by the ninth-place finish from sophomore Christine McNeill (9.725). Senior co-captain, and Murphy's lone all-around performer, Sarah Liebowitz tallied a 9.675 while sophomore Nikki Berrian scored a 9.625. Catrambone (9.550) and sophomore Natasha Crawford (9.075) also competed on the uneven bars for the Owls.
Moore's balance beam tally led all Owls while Crawford finished ninth with a 9.500. True freshman Evelyn Lespinasse scored a 9.350 while fellow classmate Nina Oteri posted a 9.275. Sophomore Winter Sneed scored an even 9.000 as Temple's fifth and final qualifying score.
Sneed's 9.700 in the floor exercise placed second among all Owls behind Moore. Kornett scored a 9.525 while Liebowitz tallied a 9.300. Berrian completed Murphy's floor exercise rotation with a 9.275.
The Cherry and White will now gear up for the 2007 ECAC Championships to be held in Ithaca, N.Y. on the Cornell campus March 31 at 12:00 p.m.
