PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's tennis team captured its second-straight win in as many days, defeating Villanova, 4-2, Thursday afternoon at the TU Pavilion. The Owls improved their record to 8-7 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 1-6.
Nathan Spunda defeated Sean Daly, 6-1, 6-3, at first singles, while teammate Daniel Davis earned a hard-fought win at the No. 2 spot against Brian Maher, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Gonzalo De Villa was victorious at the fifth slot, defeating Brett Tobin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Philip Gegenheimer returned for the Owls, besting Sumanth Chittajallu, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
"Overall, it was another solid team effort," said Coach Steve Mauro. "This victory gives us momentum going into this weekend when we face two Atlantic 10 teams in Dayton and Xavier."
The Owls (8-7) are on the road this weekend, playing Dayton on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) and Xavier on Sunday (10:00 a.m.).
