WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The Temple golf team shot a two-round 619 (310-319) to finish 20th at the William and Mary Invitational, played March 26-27 at Kingsmill Country Club. Junior Paul Amess paced the Owls for the second time in as many events this Spring, carding an 11-over 153 (78-75) to finish tied for 51st in the 111-player field.
Sophomores Adam Pifer and Hugo Braune each posted 160 totals to complement Amess and finish tied for 84th. Pifer opened with a 78 before closing with a 83 on Tuesday, while Braune carded a 78 on Monday before recording an 82 final round. Senior co-captains Logan Terry (77-84) and James Boose (82-79) rounded-out the Cherry & White scorecard, finishing tied for 93rd. Boose was the only Owl to improve his score on day two of the event.
Campbell, which tallied 119 par scores, won the tournament with a 575 (279-296) total, three shots ahead of second place Saint John's. Detroit Mercy finished in the show position with a 589. Campbell's Fredric Sundberg captured the individual crown, finishing with a five-under 137, including a tournament-best, opening-round 67.
Four different players registered eagles in the tournament, which was played on two courses at Kingsmill, each with a par 71 grade. Twenty-one teams participated in the event.
Temple, under the direction of third-year head coach Brian Rogers, returns to the links next Friday for the Navy Spring Invitational, Played April 6-7 at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md.
