Temple Places Seventh At A-10 Women's Rowing Championships

Pennsauken, NJ - Four Temple University women's crew boats advanced to the finals at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships helping the Owls score 13 points and earn seventh place at the regatta held Saturday on the Cooper River. The University of Massachusetts won its 12th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title, the longest title streak in any sport in Atlantic 10 history.
Head coach Tim Hagan's Owls posted their most points (5) in the Second Varsity 8 with the team besting Saint Joseph's by three-tenths of a second for fourth place. Temple's Lightweight 8 crew made its A-10 Championship debut with a third place finish to earn four points while the Varsity 4 finished fourth and the Quad sixth.
The Second Varsity 8, which placed third in its heat, was comprised of Jennifer Azeles (coxswain), Lauren Fattori (stroke), Laura Altimari (7), Kate Guth (6), Brittany Sugden (5), Carolyn Bailey (4), Laura Scullin (3), Jess Hermann (2) and Nicole Wagner (bow).
Overall, the Minutewomen edged out second-place Rhode Island (44) by just one point with a 45 point total. The two teams entered the final event, the Quad Grand Final, tied at 39 before Massachusetts captured its first win of the day taking the Quad in a time of 7:18.5. Rhode Island finished second (7:42.4) in the event to keep the scoring tight. Duquesne posted its highest finish ever with 26 points for third place and Saint Joseph's finished fourth with 24 points. The Hawks were followed by Dayton (20 points), George Washington (16 points), Temple (13 points), Fordham (11 points), and La Salle (6 points).
