PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University Athletic Marketing Department earned a First Place Award in the category of "Best Single Game Attendance Promotion for Men's Basketball." The award was given by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) at its 2007 NACMA Convention held this past weekend in Orlando, FL.

Temple won the award for its promotion of "Hooter the Owl's Birthday," which was celebrated at the Temple Men's Basketball game versus Massachusetts on February 11 at the Liacouras Center. The game featured appearances by more than 15 Philadelphia-area professional and minor league sports team mascots, a replica jersey giveaway (courtesy of the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union), a halftime mascot basketball game, activities for children on the concourse, and free birthday cake for all fans.

"We're extremely honored to receive such a great award," said Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Promotions Scott Walcoff. "Hooter the Owl's Birthday took a great deal of planning and coordination, and it's fantastic that we were recognized by our peers in this manner. From the fans and our corporate partner PFCU to Hooter and his fellow mascots, we appreciated everyone's involvement in being a part of this special and fun event."

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. A total of 922 entries were received for the 2006-07 year.

NACMA is administered by NACDA. In its 42nd year, NACDA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
