New York, N.Y.-Temple's Candice Dupree will represent the Chicago Sky on the Eastern Conference team at the 2007 WNBA All-Star Game. This is the sophomore sensation's second year as an All-Star reserve. The All-Star Game, the eighth in league history, will be held on Sunday, July 15 in Washington, D.C. and will be televised nationally on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Dupree is the league's third most prolific scorer at the 2007 season mid-point, averaging 19.4 points per game, behind Lauren Jackson's 22.6 for Seattle and Seimone Augustus' 22.3 for Minnesota. She ranks fifth in the league in rebounds per game, averaging 8.2. Dupree was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played June 11-17, her first such honor. She currently leads the Sky in points per game with 19.6, rebounds with 8.2 and field goal percentage with .495, and she has recorded six of the team's 11 double-doubles this season.
"Candice has really stepped up this season and become a leader far beyond her years both on and off the court," says Sky Head Coach Bo Overton. "She's had a huge role in the success of this young team, and being just a second-year player herself, she's really shown her maturity and potential for the future."
Dupree was drafted sixth overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2006 WNBA Draft. As a rookie, she led the Sky in scoring and finished the season ranked third in points, second in rebounds and first in field goal percentage and blocks among all WNBA rookies. A standout player at Temple, Dupree was named the 2005-06 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
