PHILADELPHIA - Junior Mackenson Altidor and freshman Max Kinderwater were named Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer co-Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending September 9. It was the first honor for the Owl soccer players.
Altidor, a transfer from Northern Oklahoma Junior College, was named the Defensive MVP for the Drexel Invitational Tournament this past weekend, helping lead the Owls to a 2-0 week with his brilliant play. A native of Abaco, Bahamas, the sweeper back anchored a Cherry and White defensive corps that allowed just one goal, despite missing two starters, in wins over Rider (2-1 on 9/7) and Howard (3-0, 9/9).
Kinderwater, a 5-8 midfielder out of Manheim Township, tallied the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Howard to help lift Temple to the Drexel Invitational Tournament title. The Lancaster, Pa. native also had an assist in the contest. He is currently tied for the team lead in scoring with three points.
The Owls (2-1-1) next take the pitch this weekend when they travel to Norfolk, Va. to take part in the Old Dominion Tournament. Temple will open play with a Friday match against William & Mary (4:30 p.m.) before taking on host ODU Sunday (2:30 p.m.).
