PHILADELPHIA - Temple freshman golfer Andrew Mason has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. Mason shot a 71-76-71=218 (+8) this weekend at the Bucknell Invitational to finish tied for eighth overall and second for Temple. The Owls' runner-up finish was the best showing since placing second at the Scotty Duncan Memorial on April 23, 2006.
Mason's third-round 71 (+1) on Saturday was the third lowest score of the day at the Bucknell Golf Club. He also shot a 71 on Friday in his first collegiate appearance. Mason is the first Owl to win an A-10 weekly award since Justin Masters won rookie honors on April 24, 2006.
"Andrew is a great player with an unbelievable amount of potential," first-year head coach Brian Quinn said. "This is just the tip of the iceberg for him."
The Cherry and White is back in action on Friday at The McLaughlin at Bethpage Red GC.
