HARTFORD, CT - Senior Tony Pratico returned in goal for the Temple men's soccer team, but it was not enough as the Owls fell to host Hartford, 1-0, on Saturday night. Temple dropped its third straight match to fall to 2-4-1 on the season. Hartford improves to 4-1-1.
Hartford's Gary Muir scored the game's lone goal in the 28th minute. Daniel Antunez sent a cross from the right corner that found an open Muir in the box. Muir finished the play, besting Pratico from 15 yards out for his third goal of the season.
Hartford had another brilliant look at the net in the 11th minute when Antunez chipped a shot from the right of the box towards an open net, but Temple defender, Augustin Coly, was able to get a top of his foot on the ball, enough to push it over the crossbar.
The Owls took four shots in the first half, compared to six for Hartford. Both keepers finished the first 45 minutes with three saves. The teams would only get one shot a piece on goal in the second half with each keeper recording a save. Hartford's net minder Matt Glaeser finished with four total, while Pratico, who had missed the three previous games due to injury, made three saves. The Owls took eight total shots in the game, while Hartford finished with 10.
Temple opens the home portion of its schedule Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. match against Philadelphia University.
