Men's Soccer Posts 2-0 Win Over Philadelphia U. In Home Opener

AMBLER, PA - Temple freshman Kenechukwu Nwanah came off the bench late in the first half had scored a goal and an assisted on another to lead the Owls to a 2-0 win over Philadelphia University Wednesday afternoon at the Ambler Soccer Complex. The match was the home opener for the Cherry and White, who improve to a 3-4-1 overall and 1-0 in Philadelphia Soccer 7 play. The Rams drop to 0-7-1.
After and evenly played first 40 minutes, the Owls drove down the field with freshman Brian Weinhardt taking the ball into the right corner. Weinhardt then crossed to Nwanah on the left side for a one-time goal in front of the left corner of the goal mouth to put Temple in front 1-0.
The Rams continued to attack with four shots in the second half, but it wasn't enough. In the 80th minute, freshman J.T. Noone took the ball in the middle of the field and passed the ball right on the foot of Nwanah alone sprinting down the right wing. Nwanah crossed to sophomore Francois Sagna in front of the net and he finished the play for his first goal of his career..
Philadelphia goalkeeper Ezra Cassell and Temple goalkeeper Tony Pratico each had three saves in the game. For Pratico, it was his his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career.
Temple will be off the pitch until Saturday, October 6 (2:00 p.m.) when it faces La Salle at the Ambler Soccer Complex.
