RICHMOND - Against some very strong competition, the Temple men's tennis team dropped three matches at the VCU Invitational over the weekend.
The pair of junior Eduardo Saavedra and junior Ricardo Velazquez were the only winners for the Cherry and White over the weekend, as they defeated Drew Crank and David Berry of Richmond 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in doubles action.
The Owls fell to #49 East Tennessee State 5-0 in the opener on Saturday and 3-0 to James Madison on the same day, in a match that was shortened due to time constraints. On Sunday, the Cherry and White fell to fellow Atlantic 10 competitors Richmond 3-1, with the Saavedra-Velaquez victory being the only win for the Owls.
The Owls (0-4) begin their 2008 home slate on Saturday against Saint Francis from the Cheltenham Tennis Center. Play is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
