Women's Gymnastics Open Season at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshmen Katie Canning and sophomore Danielle Viens led the Owls with third place finishes at the season opening George Washington Invitational over the weekend.
As a team, the Owls finished in fifth place at the George Washington Invitational.
The Cherry and White concluded the weekend with a final score of 184.900. North Carolina took first place for the weekend with a final tally of 193.575, trailed by host George Washington (190.00) and Rutgers (187.625).
Canning made a quite an impression in her first career met for the Cherry and White. Canning finished tied for third in the balance beam, with a score of 9.625. Viens finished tied for third in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.750. She finished mere percentage points shy of the winner, Stephanie Pannick of Rutgers.
Also for the Owls, senior Desiree Meredith finished 12th in the vault, scoring a 9.575, junior Winter Sneed placed 15th in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.225, and junior Natasha Crawford finished 12th in balance beam with a score of 9.450.
The Owls (1-4) are back in action next Friday when they travel to Ursinus. The action is slated to begin at 6:00 pm.
