Second Round Charge Helps Owls Finish Sixth At ODU/Seascape

KITTY HAWK, NC - Temple carded the third-best score of the day as part of a second round charge that propelled the Owls up the leaderboard six places to finish sixth at the Old Dominion/Seascape Invitational on Tuesday in Kitty Hawk, NC. Senior Kevin Busteed recorded his third top-10 finish of the fall by shooting a 71-74=145 (+5) and placed eighth in the 77-player field.
The Cherry and White posted a second round score of 300 (+20) to finish with a 603 (+23). After standing in 12th place after 18 holes, TU played steady golf in tough conditions to rocket up the leaderboard. Only host and eventual winner ODU (289) and James Madison (296) shot better scores on Tuesday.
Junior Eric Plisko shot a 77-75=152 (+12) to tie for 38th, while sophomore Sasha Bozic tied for 45th with a 78-77=155 (+15). Sophomore Andrew Mason rebounded from his 83 on Monday with a four-over 74 to finish 57th (83-74=157, +17). Senior Adam Pifer rounded out the scorecard with a 77-82=159 (+19).
The host Monarchs shot a 290-289=579 (+19) to win the tournament by seven strokes over Campell. JMU finished third, followed by USC Upstate (597, +37) and George Washington (599, +39). Liberty's Tobias Pettersson won the individual title with a 69-71=140 (E).
The ODU/Seascape Invitational marks the end of the most successful fall campaigns in recent history for Temple. The Owls won the Big 5 Invitational, their first team title since 2005, and finished second at the St. Bonaventure Invitational. The Cherry and White also posted top 10 finishes at Rutgers (8th of 24) and the McLaughlin (4th of 18).
Individually, Busteed and Plisko are ranked in the top three players in the Atlantic 10 in scoring average. Temple begins the spring campaign on March 23-24 at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by William and Mary.
