Women's Crew Makes An Impressive Showing At The Philadelphia Frostbite and Bill Braxton Regattas

PHILADELPHIA - Temple Women's Crew put on a stellar performance this weekend at both the Philadelphia Frostbite and Bill Braxton Regattas, signaling the end of the Fall season. The Owls had nine winning boats within the two days of competition. Of the nine winning boats, four were under the direction of freshman and novice players.
"It's a great way to end our fall racing season and head into winter training," says head coach Tim Hagan. "I am very proud and excited about how the team performed this weekend. We did our best rowing of the year so far. From varsity to novice, the whole team performed well. This was our most successful weekend in a long while."
The Owls began their winning weekend Saturday at the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta. The team recorded four winning boats. Within the varsity competition, two boats recorded first place finishes. With an overall time of 7:54.97, the Varsity 4A team was comprised of Jillian Ploof (coxswain), Laura Altimari (4-seat), Mary Webster (3-seat), Bailey Chick (2-seat), and Lauren Scullin (bow). On the Varsity 4B was Erin Buchanan (coxswain), Caitlin Penington (4-seat), Courtney Wall (3-seat), Nicole Miller (2-seat), and Danielle Scheetz (bow), with an overall time of 8:37.06. On the frosh/novice side, the team had two first place finishes, in the freshman/novice 4 and 8B divisions.
To wrap up the team's competitive weekend, the Owls headed to the Bill Braxton Regatta, where the team had five winning boats. In a time of 6:10.84, the Women's Varsity 4A team consisted of Jillian Ploof (Coxswain), Laura Altimari (4-seat), Mary Webster (3-seat), Bailey Chick (2-seat) and Laura Scullin (bow). Erin Buchanan (coxswain), Caitlin Penington (4-seat), Courtney Wall (3-seat), Nicole Miller (2-seat) and Danielle Scheetz (bow) recorded another victory, as the members of the 4B team had a time of 6:32.26. To round out the varsity squad, the Varsity 8 division recorded a time of 5:23.01 with members Jillian Ploof (coxswain), Laura Altimari (8-seat), Mary Webster (7-seat), Bailey Chick (6-seat), Laura Scullin (5-seat), Megan Hanlin (4-seat), Mary Peach (3-seat), Brynn Moore (2-seat), and Megan Silk (bow). Temple's Frosh/Novice 4 and Frosh/Novice 8 both adorned first place finishes as well.
The Owls are set to return in the spring on May 14th, 2009 at the Mayor's Cup Regatta in Tampa, FL.
