Men's Soccer Defeated in A-10 Semifinal Match

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Temple men's soccer season came to an end Friday night in the Atlantic 10 Conference semifinals with a 2-1 in overtime loss to Dayton at Duquesne University. The Owls finish their season 10-5-4, 6-1-2 in A-10 play, while the Flyers move to 14-4-2, 7-2-1.
Dayton tallied first on a corner kick from Simeon Zapryanov that was headed past Owls keeper Bret Mollon by Florian DeCamps. Mollon made five saves in the match.
The Owls battled throughout the contest, matching Dayton's eight shots in the first half. Freshman forward Tyler Witmer tallied three shots in the first half, putting one on net.
It was in the 71st minute that the Cherry and White netted their first goal of the evening. Junior midfielder J.T. Noone, who has been the Owls main distributor all season, set up senior James Suevo for the game tying goal in the 71st minute. It increased Noone's school record for assists in a season to 13. The Owls out shot Dayton in the second half eight to four.
The Cherry and White came out with the momentum in overtime. Junior Francois Sagna tallying the Owls' first and only shot of the period. Keeper Bret Mollon suppressed the Flyers' first attempt at scoring, stopping a header off a corner by Jack Pearson. On the following corner kick, Zach Weiss found DeCamps for the game-winner.
The Owls second place finish in the A-10 during the regular season was their best since 1990, with the team posting their most wins since 2004. The Cherry and White finish with a 10-5-4, 6-1-2 in A-10 play record.
