PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's basketball claimed its fourth win on the season with a 65-29 victory over Dartmouth on Wednesday evening at the Liacouras Center.
The Owls improved to 4-2 overall, while the Big Green fell to 1-5 overall.
Temple scored the game's first bucket, but Dartmouth fired back to take a 10-4 lead with 13:17 on the clock. The Owls then went on a 23-0 run, holding the Ivy Leaguers scoreless over an eight-minute period. During that stretch, TU sophomore Shaqwedia Wallace had eight points, including two treys, while senior Shenita Landry eight points in the paint. The host Owls held an 18-point lead at intermission, 36-18.
In the second half, Temple held Dartmouth to just 11 points while building its lead to 36 points. The 36-point win is the largest since a 40-point last season [74-34 vs. Kent State, 12-5-07].
"We talked about trying to put that game (Rutgers) behind us," TU head coach Tonya Cardoza said. "The only way we could do that was to play for 40 minutes. The adrenaline was flowing tonight."
Wallace led the Owls with 18 points, including a career-high four buckets from three-point range. Landry followed with 14 points and eight rebounds, while senior Shanea Cotton added 11 points and a team-high nine boards.
Koren Schram was the only Dartmouth player in double figures. She finished with 15 points. Brittney Smith grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Overall, Temple out-rebounded Dartmouth, 44-33. The Owls forced 21 turnovers while committing just 11. TU shot 43 percent (28-65) from the field, compared to Dartmouth's 21 percent (10-48).
Temple continues its five-game homestand with Florida State on Sunday, Dec. 7. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Liacouras Center.
"It's another opportunity to play a team that's really good and to see where we stand against top competition," Cardoza said.
