J.T. Noone Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Co-Performer Of The Year

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University junior All-American J.T. Noone was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Co-Performer of the Year for soccer headlining four Owl student-athletes honored on the fall sports Academic All-area teams. Also representing Temple on the annual Academic All-Area Teams, which are selected by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors (Philly-SIDA), are fellow juniors Charise Young (field hockey), Jake Brownell (football) and Jackie Morrison (volleyball).

Noone, a native of Harrisburg, Pa (Central Dauphin), posted record breaking numbers this season for the Owls in earning Second Team All-America honors. His 12 assists set a school mark, breaking the previous mark of nine set by Tony Donatelli in 2004. A starter in every game for the Cherry and White, Noone led the Atlantic 10 in assists and assists per game, as well as ranking third nationally in assists per game. The midfielder tallied seven goals, and led the team in points with 26.

Also the Soccer 7 Player of the Year and First Team All-Atlantic 10, Noone, an economics major with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average, was also named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Senior College Men's Scholar All-America Soccer Team as well as ESPN The Magazine's First Team Academic All-America.

Young, a Harleysville, Pa. native (Christopher Dock), had a stellar season, being selected as a member of the Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, which is voted on by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The TU forward led the Owls in goals (eight) and points (23) for the season. Her .333 shot percentage also led the team, while her seven assists tied for second in the A-10.

Young, a two-time Academic All-Area honoree, also earned A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year honors and owns a 3.95 grade point average as a Secondary Education/Social Studies major.

Brownell, a Thorofare, N.J. native (West Deptford), played in 11 games for the Owls this fall, handling field goals and extra points. In the win over Eastern Michigan, the Owl kicker went a perfect 7-of-7 for a career-high seven PATs and made two field goals. Brownell finished the season with 52 points, converting 28-of-31 PATs and eight field goals.

A member of the President's Academic Honor Roll and University Honors Program, the two-time Academic All-Area honoree owns a 3.52 grade-point average in biology.

Morrison, a Stony Brook, N.Y. native (Ward Melville), has played in nearly every match of her career and led Temple with 1147 assists, which ranked second in the Atlantic 10 Conference. A speech language and hearing science major, she currently carries a 3.83 cumulative grade point average. Twice voted to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Morrison was named to Temple's President's Honor Roll as well as the Trustee Ten, given to athletes with the athletic department's Top 10 GPA's.
