Williams Wins 500m As Women's Track Places Sixth At A-10s

KINGSTON, RI - Freshman Paris Williams won the 500m (1:15.48) and ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay that finished second to help the Temple women's indoor track team to a sixth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday at Rhode Island's Mackal FIeldhouse. Sophomore Melissa Gale finished second in the pole vault and tied a season best by clearing 11-3 3/4;.
Junior Amanda Cole improved her own school record in the weight throw (53-1 1/2) and placed fifth. She was also sixth in the shot put (39-9 1/4).
Junior Devon DuPont and sophomore Brittney McRae also had good days. They combined to score 11 points in the long jump, with Dupont finishing third (17-9 3/4) and McRae placing fourth (17-7 1/2). McRae was third in the 55m hurdles (8.25), while Dupont was sixth (8.44). Dupont finished her busy day with a seventh place showing in the high jump (5-3).
Junior Carlleen Allison finished fifth in the 400m (58.71). Senior Cheryl Anscombe was seventh in the 200m (25.84) and 400m (58.82), while junior Rose Drayton ran a season-best time in the 55m (7.31) to place ninth. She was also ninth in the 200m (26.04).
Senior Shanice DePass finished eighth in the 800m (2:20.13) and junior Kimberlyn Hill was seventh in the triple jump (36-5 1/2).
Charlotte claimed its third straight A-10 Women's Indoor Championship with 180 points, doubling up Dayton (91). Host Rhode Island was third (85), followed by Richmond (77), La Salle (73), Temple (65.5), Massachusetts (55), Saint Joseph's (29), Fordham (27.5), Xavier (22), Duquesne (20) and Saint Louis (16).
Temple is back in action on February 29 at the NYU FastTrack.
