PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's basketball team (13-10, 6-1 A-10) looks to continue its winning ways when it hosts the Charlotte 49ers (14-9, 5-2 A-10) on Wednesday at noon.  The game will also celebrate the sixth annual Dawn Staley Day, where thousands of Philadelphia students are invited to the Liacouras Center for a day of learning and fun.  The Owls are currently riding a six game winning streak after capturing their fourth straight Big Five title on Saturday.

Series Record
This is the fourth meeting between the Temple Owls and the Charlotte 49ers. Temple leads the series, 2-1, but Temple has won the last two meetings.  The teams last played on February 18, 2007, when Temple defeated the 49ers, 72-55.

Temple continued to make history on Saturday winning its 18th consecutive Big Five game, a 60-55 victory over LaSalle.  The Owls clinch their fourth straight city series crown, becoming the first team in Big Five history to win four straight titles outright.  Shenita Landry posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead four players in double figures.  Lady Comfort chipped in with 12 points and nine boards, while newcomer Shaqwedia Wallace scored a career-high 11 points.  LaKeisha Eaddy had 10 points.  Temple was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, making 12-of-13, and outrebounded the Explorers, 36-18, on its way to its sixth-straight victory.  Both squads shot an impressive 56% from the field in the first half but struggled in the second stanza to finish with nearly identical shooting performances, 44% for the Owls and 47.7% for the Explorers. Landry added two blocks and two steals to her all-star performance, while Ashley Morris dished a team-high five assists and scored nine points.

Morris leads Temple in scoring and assists, averaging 14 ppg and dishing 89 assists.   Comfort is averaging 9.3 ppg and a team-high 8.0 rpg.

Despite three players in double-figures led by Danielle Burgin's 15 points, Charlotte dropped a 71-60 contest at Saint Louis Saturday. Burgin scored 15 points with 11 of those points coming in the second half. Wendy Stywalt recorded her second straight double-figure scoring game with 12 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Sabrina Gregory tallied her 57th double-figure scoring game of the season with 12 point.

Burgin leads two 49ers in double figures with 11.3 ppg, and a team-high 8.6 rpg.  Gregory is second with 10.9 ppg and a team-high 94 assists.  Burgin also leads the squad in blocks (34).

OWLS+Kids=Winning Record
Temple should consider playing all of its games at noon and in front of thousands of screaming children.  The Owls are a perfect 5-0 on Dawn Staley Day and have defeated all five opponents by an average of 16.6 ppg.  The Cherry and White have also set two Liacouras Center records on Staley School Day; field goal percentage (62.2) vs. Charlotte (1/6/06) and most points scored in a half (56) against St. Bonaventure (1/13/05).
