Amess Wins Bermuda Match Play Championship

HAMILTON, BERMUDA - Temple junior Paul Amess defeated Blake Marshall, 9 & 8, on Saturday to win the Bermuda Match Play Championship at the Mid Ocean Golf Course. With his victory, the Stevenage, England native is now exempt for the British Amateur and also exempt to the final round of British Open qualifying.

Amess was eight-under after 27 holes against Marshall and won the match going away. The left-hander needed a birdie on the final hole to beat Anthony Mocklow, 1-up, in the semifinals on Friday. In the first two rounds, Amess defeated Graham Strange and Arthur Jones, respectively.

The junior will play in the British Amateur at the Westin Turnberry Resort in Scotland from June 15-21. He also will attempt to qualify for the British Open this summer.

He was second on the team this fall with a scoring average of 74.6 and owns a career average of 75.3.

Amess will join the Owls on their Spring Break trip to Florida on Sunday evening. Temple opens its spring season on Monday, March 10 at the SIU-Edwardsville Cougar Classic.
