Tyndale, Morris Earn MVP Honors At Temple Basketball Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Mark Tyndale and Ashley Morris were named the Most Valuable Players of the Temple men's and women's basketball teams at the Owl Club Annual Awards Banquet held Thursday, April 10 on the main campus at Mitten Hall. Tyndale, who was unable to attend due to his participation at the Portsmouth Invitational, is the only player in Temple history to rank among the top 20 in scoring and rebounding and top 10 in assists and steals in school history. Morris, a first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, also picked up four additional awards at the banquet.

Senior walk-on Orlando Miller was named the recipient of the Tim Claxton Award for loyalty, dedication and attitude to the University and community. Junior center Sergio Olmos was named the Owl Club Academic Award winner. Senior co-captain Chris Clark was honored with the Harry Litwack Award for sportsmanship, dedication, devotion and conduct on and off the court.

Besides her MVP honor, Morris was the recipient of the Henry Sklar Award presented to the player who displays outstanding academic achievement, leadership, good citizenship and dedication. She also was named the team's Most Improved Player, the Hustle Award winner and shared the best three-point shooter award with freshman Lindsay Kimmel.

Senior Lady Comfort was named the team's top rebounder. Junior Shenita Landry was the Sixth Woman Award winner and freshman Shaqwedia Wallace earned the Top Foul Shooter Award. Trainers Steve Spiro (men's team) and Paul Murata (women's) earned the Ted Quedenfeld and Unsung Hero Awards, respectively. Loyal alum Bill Barnes was named the recipient of the Congie DeVito Award. Ed Freeman, Holden Hummel and John Poole received Owl Club Honor Roll Awards.
