PHILADELPHIA - Junior Paul Amess, who was a stroke away from winning his first collegiate tournament, was named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Amess finished third at the Princeton Invitational this weekend after shooting a 71-73-68=212 (-1), the best three-round score by a Temple golfer since he shot an identical 54-hole total of 212 at the Treasure Coast Classic on March 6-8, 2007. It also was the fifth-best three-round score in school history.
His three-under 68 on Sunday was the best final round recorded at Springdale Golf Club. He led the field with 14 birdies and was among the leaders in par three and par four scoring.
The Stevenage, England native helped the Owls to a sixth place finish, and the best score (292) in the 15-team field on Sunday. Temple carded a 290-296-292=878 (+26) to finish nine strokes off the lead and only five strokes out of second place.
Amess leads the team with a 73.6 stoke average and owns four top-five finishes. He will lead the team to the Mount St. Mary's Invitational this weekend.
