Cole Qualifies For NCAA Regionals In Hammer Throw At TCNJ

EWING, NJ - Junior Amanda Cole qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship in the hammer throw with a school-record distance of 178-3 as the Temple women's track team competed at the unscored TCNJ Invitational on Saturday. She won the event by over 30 feet and also finished third in the shot put (38-10 1/2) and fifth in the discus (114-11). Junior Devon DuPont met ECAC qualifying standards by winning the decathlon with 4,456 points at the Bucknell Classic.
Other winners for Temple at TCNJ included junior Carlleen Allison in the 400m (56.50), sophomore Brittney McRae in the 100m hurdles (14.50), and freshman Assata Cowart in the 400m hurdles (1:03.66). The 4x100 relay also was victorious in a time of 46.8h, as was the 1600 sprint medley (4:11.38).
In the field events, junior Kimberlyn Hill was a winner in the triple jump (36-1) and sophomore Daisy Amato took the javelin (115-0).
Several Owls had second place finishes as well. Senior Cheryl Anscombe was second in the 400m (57.21) while senior Jasselle Cruz also was second in the 400m hurdles (1:04.98). Sophomore Melissa Gale turned in a season-best in the pole vault (11-1) to place second in that event.
Temple will head to the Princeton Invitational this weekend.
