Beijing, China - Head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley, who also serves as an assistant coach for the United States Olympic women's basketball team, helped the squad to a silver medal in the Good Luck Beijing Tournament, held in Beijing, China April 19-26.
The Americans (4-2) faced off against China in the gold medal game and, though they had defeated the hosts just two days before, were not able to pull of the defeat, falling 84-81. The U.S. topped Cuba, South Korea, New Zealand and China and dropped a game to Australia en route to the championship game.
The Good Luck Beijing Tournament was held as a tune-up for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Competition begins on Saturday, August 2.
Former Seattle Storm head coach Anne Donovan, Texas head coach Gail Goestenkors and Connecticut Sun head coach Mike Thibault comprise the rest of the U.S. coaching staff.
