PHILADELPHIA - Junior Paul Amess of the Temple men's golf team was selected to the Atlantic 10 Conference's Academic All-Conference team in voting conducted by the Conference's sports information directors.
Amess, a big hitting lefthander, finished the season with the team's lowest stroke average (74.7 spg.) and was the Owls top finisher with a 74-71-72=217 (+1), tied for 14th overall. The Stevenage, England native was twice named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week and was just one stroke away from winning the Princeton Invitational during his impressive 2008 campaign. Amess shot the sixth-lowest individual score in program history with a 67 earlier in the season at the SIUE Cougar Classic and also captured Bermuda Match Play Championship earlier this spring, exempting him to the final round of British Open qualifying.
In the classroom, the team captain owns a 3.9 grade point average as a finance major and was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for golf in 2007. Amess was recently honored as the Temple Unverstiy's top male Student-Athlete of the Year earlier in the month.
Charlotte senior Jonas Enander Hedin was named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year, while Amess was joined on the All-Conference team by Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen; Richmond's Jordan Utley and St. Bonaventure's Brennan Payne.
