Golf Completes Play At Day One Of Atlantic 10 Championship

WINTER GREEN, FL - After 18 holes at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday, the Temple golf team stands in ninth place at the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Green, FL. Junior Paul Amess and freshman Andrew Mason led the Owls on Friday by each carding a two-over 74.
The Cherry and White shot a team score of 300 (+12), 22 shots behind tournament leaders Charlotte and Dayton, but just eight strokes out of fourth place. Rhode Island (278, -10), defending champion Charlotte (278, -10) and Dayton (279, -9) have taken the early lead with Xavier (292, +4), St. Bonaventure (293, +5), Richmond (293, +5), Saint Joseph's (298, +10) and George Washington (299, +11) bunched up in the middle.
Amess and Mason are tied for 20th in the 60-player field. Redshirt freshman Sasha Bozic carded a three-over 75 and stands tied for 28th, while junior Kevin Busteed is tied for 43rd with a five-over 77. Sophomore Eric Plisko rounded out the top five with an 82 (+10) and is tied for 54th place.
Dayton's Rob Chappell tied an A-10 record with an eight-under 64 and leads Charlotte's Jonas Enander Hedin by two strokes in the individual standings. A total of 18 players were at even par or better at the par 72, 6,882-yard Panther Lake course.
