AMHERST, MA - Sophomore Melissa Gale successfully defender her title in the pole vault, winning the event with a height of 10-11 3/4 to lead the Temple women's track team to a sixth place showing after one day at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track Championship at the University of Massachusetts. Gale also won the pole vault as a freshman by clearing 11-0.

Junior Devon DuPont leads the heptathlon with 2687 points after four events, which included winning the 100m and 200m in the heptathlon. Sophomore teammate Shaniece Stonewall stands in seventh in the event (2116). Dupont also finished fifth in the long jump (17-9).

Junior Amanda Cole finished third in the hammer throw (175-3) and was eighth in the discus (121-4). Sophomore Brittney McRae ran the third fastest time in the 100m hurdles (14.76) to qualify for tomorrow's finals. Freshman Selena Haggins (15.79) also qualified for the finals in the event.

The 4x800 relay placed fifth (9:11.30) while McRae was ninth in the long jump (17-4). Junior Rose Drayton placed 12th in the 100m dash (12.80).

After eight events, Rhode Island leads the women's Championship with a total of 53.5 points, while Dayton is second with 51.5 points. Two-time defending champion Charlotte is third with 47 points, followed by Massachusetts (29) and La Salle (29), Temple (25), Richmond (23), Duquesne (17.5), Xavier (13), Saint Louis (9.5), Saint Joseph's (eight) and Fordham (six).

Action commences at 8:45am on Sunday, May 4, with the 110m hurdles in the men's decathlon, followed by the women's javelin at 9:00am. Live video is available on owlsports.com.
