Men's Soccer Adds Seven Players To 2008 Roster

PHILADELPHIA- Head Coach David MacWilliams and the Temple Men's soccer team have announced the signing of seven recruits for the 2008 season. There are six freshmen joining the class of 2012, including Rodrigo Zuleta, Christopher Rio, Brian Keller, Tyler Witmer, Brian Wingfield, and Chris Velasquez. Transferring from Oakland University is goal keeper Bret Mollon, a junior.
Rodrigo Zuleta, a native of Bethesda, Maryland, was captain of his Walt Whitman High School team and was named First Team All-Met and Second Team All-State as a senior. Zuleta tallied eight goals and 27 assists in his high school career from the midfield.
Christopher Rio, a high school defenseman, will also become an Owl. Originally from Hatfield, PA, the senior team captain led North Penn High School to the Suburban One National Conference Championship, and was named Runner-up Suburban One National Player of the Year as well as receiving Suburban One First Team honors.
Also from Pennsylvania, Tyler Witmer scored 15 goals and assisted on 16 as a senior captain for Conrad Weismer High School. The Wernersville native was named Berks County Player of the Year, as well as being named to the All-State Team, and a regional All-American selection.
Brian Keller, defenseman from Kendall Park, NJ, started 51 out of 60 games for South Brunswick High School, and was named Honorable Mention All-State as a senior. Keller was also honored as First Team Red Division and Second Team All-County as a senior. He led South Brunswick to a Red Division Championship, and helped his club team win a state and national championship.
Chris Velasquez, of Upland, California, was named team captain as a senior, and also honored as 1st team All-League for Upland High School. He was also given the Best Offensive Player award while scoring 11 goals and three assists from the midfield.
Wrapping up the freshmen class is Brian Wingfield, a native of Roswell, GA, and a three year varsity starter and four year letter winner at Roswell High School. Wingfield was named Offensive Player of the Year his senior year, and also led his club team, NASA Elite, to win an Atlanta Cup championship.
Bret Mollon, a junior transfer from Oakland University in Michigan, is also joining the Owls. The Washington, Michigan native posted three shutouts in three games for Oakland, and was also named to the Academic All-Summit League team.
The Owls open their 2008 season as they travel to face Villanova on August 29th in a Soccer 7 match.
