PHILADELPHIA-The Temple University men's tennis squad volunteered its time during the 2007-08 season in the Penrose area as part of a program conducted by the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Association. The players helped teach the kids about the game as well as taking part in cleaning up the Penrose area.
"This is a great way for us to reach out and help a community that we are also a part of," head coach Steve Mauro said. "We look forward to upholding this tradition and finding new ways to give back to the community."
The Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Association opened its tennis and education center in Fairmount Park in April of 2006. The organization is for participants between the ages 4-18 often from underserved, at-risk, multicultural populations. Each year, the Arthur Ashe Youth group says, more than 8,200 participants receive academic, athletic and mentoring services and positive life lessons through the organization.
