Busteed's Career Low Leads Temple In Round One At Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Senior Kevin Busteed carded a career-best 70 (-1) and is two shots back of the lead after a rain-soaked round one at the season-opening Rutgers Invitational played on Friday at the RU Golf Course. The Owls recorded a eight-over 292 and stand in seventh place in the 24-team field, 11 shots behind defending champion USC Upstate (281, -3).
Busteed carded a 36 on the front nine and had a 34 on the back to top his previous career-best of 71 recorded at the Treasure Coast Classic on March 9, 2007. He stands in seventh place in the 127-player field with 18 holes to play.
Sophomore Andrew Mason recorded a 34-38=72 (+1) and is tied for 17th place. Junior Eric Plisko (36-39=75) and sophomore Joseph Kim (38-37=75) had identical four-over scores and are tied for 41st. Senior Adam Pifer (40-37=77, +6) rounded out the Owls scorecard.
USC Upstate has a three-stroke lead over Bryant (284, E) after placing three players in the top seven. Bryant's Scott Congdon, USC Upstate's Michael Lawrence and Towson's Chris Scialo are a top the leaderboard with three-under 68s.
Play resumes at 7:30 AM on the par-71, 6,337-yard Rutgers University Golf Course on Saturday.
