FARMINGDALE, NY - Senior Kevin Busteed carded a career-best 68 (-2) on Saturday to lead Temple to a fourth-place finish at The McLaughlin at Bethpage Red on Saturday. His three-round score of 70-73=68=211 (+1) was also a career-low and he tied for sixth in the 93-player field. As a team, the Cherry and White carded a 282-290-290=862 (+22) to finish eight strokes back of Southeastern Lousiana.
Busteed set his previous career-best of 70 last weekend at Rutgers Invitational, but bettered it by two strokes today. The 68 was the third lowest score of the day and allowed Busteed to finish just two shots back of three players who shot one-under scores for the 54-hole tournament.
Junior Eric Plisko shot a three-over 73 on Saturday to finish with a 69-75-73=217 (+7) to tie for 22nd. Senior Paul Amess placed 29th with a 70-73-75=218 (+8), while sophomore Andrew Mason carded a 79-69-74=222 (+12) to place 51st. Sophomore Joseph Kim rounded out the Owls scorecard with a 73-79-75=227 (+17) to tie for 71st.
A regular stop on the Owls fall schedule, Temple finished 11th, 13th, and 10th the past three years at The McLaughlin. In 2004, the Owls also finished fourth.
Southeastern Louisiana led after all three rounds and won the event with a 279-288-287=854 (+14). Towson was four shots back with a three-round 858 (+18) followed by Johnson & Wales at +22 (860). Jacksonville State and Arkansas State joined Temple in fourth at +22.
Three players tied for the individual title at one-under - Iona's Sean Curtin, Sacred Heart's Pat Fillian and Johnson & Wales' Dave Tobon.
