Women's Gymnastic Opens Season With Fourth Place Finish at George Washington Invitational

WASHINGTON - Freshman Corrine Williams, making her collegiate debut, took second place in the balance beam to lead the Temple Women's Gymnastics team to a fourth place finish (188.50) at the season-opening George Washington Invitational Friday night.

The Owls may have come in fourth place, but they were bale to top conference rivals Rutgers (186.250) and William &  Mary (186.100). North Carolina took the top spot, narrowly edging the host Colonials.

Williams took second on balance beam with a score of 9.825, the highest score for a Temple individual on the day.

Sophomore Katie Canning, the Owls big newcomer last season, was the other top performer for the Cherry and White. She took third in the all-around and fourth on vault (9.750) and floor exercise.

Several other Owls turned in Top 10 performances on the day. Senior Natasha Crawford finished fifth on balance beam (9.750). Freshman Alexandra Uscatu finished ninth on vault (9.6250. Chelsea Troutman finished fourth in all-around (38.00) and took ninth on uneven parallel bars (9.600).

The Owls (2-30 return to action this Friday when they travel to Ursinus. Action is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
